| DESCRIPTION |
Cortider is a white cream containing hydrocortisone acetate. As a corticosteroid it has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and antipruritic effect. The topical application of hydrocortisone often produces suppression of skin diseases in which inflammation is a prominent feature.
|
| INDICATIONS |
Cortider is used for the symptomatic relief of corticosteroid responsive inflammatory dermatoses. It is used in a wide variety of dermatological conditions, including the following: eczema, including atopic, infantile, discoid and statis eczemas; prurigo nodularis, neurodermatoses, seborrhoeic dermatitis, intertrigo, contact sensitivity reactions. Cortider is also recommended for the symptomatic relief of itching, pain and irritation of certain anorectal, anogenital and dermatological conditions. It can also be used in the management of insect bites and otitis externa.
|
| DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION |
A small quantity should be applied topically to the affected area 2 or 3 times daily or as directed by the physician. Recommended duration of treatment is usually 2 weeks. For rectal use apply to the irritated anorectal tissue in the morning and at evening and after each bowel movement for 2-6 days.
|
| CONTRAINDICATIONS |
Skin lesions caused by infection with viruses (e.g. herpes simplex, chickenpox), fungi (e.g. candidiasis, tinea) or bacteria (e.g. impetigo).
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
|
| PRECAUTIONS |
In infant and children, long tern continuous topical therapy should be avoided where possible, as adrenal suppression can occur even without occlusion.
As with all corticosteroids, prolonged application to the face is undesirable.
|
| SIDE EFFECTS |
Hydrocortisone acetate 1% is usually well tolerated. If signs of hypersensitivity do occur, treatment should cease.
|
| USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION |
There is inadequate evidence for safety in human pregnancy. Topical administration of corticosteroids to pregnant animal can cause abnormalities of foetal development. The use of topical corticosteroids during lactation is unlikely to present a hazard to infants being breast-fed.
|
| OVER DOSAGE |
Overdose of this corticosteroid product would be unlikely to occur other than as a result of severe and prolonged abuse of the product. Overdose would result in topical and systemic signs and symptoms associated with high corticosteroid dosage. If over dosage occur, treatment should not stop immediately but gradually withdrawn. Adrenal insufficiency may need therapy with intravenous hydrocortisone.
