Vitamin-C is an essential component of the diet as human body can’t synthesize it is a very powerful reducing agent and plays an Important role In the response of the body to stress. It is important in the defense mechanism against infections. |
| INDICATION |
| Ostocal-C is indicated In • Increased demand for calcium and Vitamin-C. e.g. pregnancy, lactation, periods of rapid growth (childhood, adolescence), in old age; During infectious disease and convalescence; Treatment of Calcium and Vitamin-C deficiency; Osteoporosis; Premenstrual syndrome; Postmenopausal problems; as adjuvant in colds and influenza |
| DOSAGE AND ADMINSTRATION |
Dosage of Ostocal-C should be Individualized based on the demand in age, sex and various physiological (pregnancy & lactation) & disease conditions. In general the dosage is: Adult, elderly and Children over 12 years of age: 2 effervescent tablets daily (preferably one tablet each at morning and evening). Children (4-12 Years) : 1 effervescent tablet daily. Infants: As prescribed by the registered physician. |
| CONTRAINDICATIONS |
1. Hypercalcaemia (e.g. in hyperparathyroidism, excessive Vitamin D, decalcifying tumour as plasmocytoma, bone metastasis) 2. Severe hyparcalciuria 3. Severe renal failure 4. Patients with hyparoxaluria 5. Glucose - 6 - phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency 6. Iron overload |
| PRECAUTIONS |
For patients with mid hypercalciuria (exceeding 300 mg = 7.5 mmol/24 hours), with mild or moderate impairment of renal function or with a history of urinary concrements, monitoring of calcium excretion in the urine is required. If necessary, the doses should be reduced or therapy should be discontinued. High doses of Vitamin-D and derivatives should be avoided during treatment with this preparation unless especially indicated. Since citrate salts have been reported to increase aluminium absorption, this preparation which contains citric acid as a constituent, should be used with caution in patients with severely impaired renal function, especially those receiving aluminium-containing preparations. The sugar content should be taken into account by diabetic patients. |

| USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION |
| Epidemiological studies with oral Calcium have shown no teratogenic hazard to the fetus. Although supplemental Calcium may be excreted in the breast milk, the concentration is unlikely to be sufficient to produce any adverse effect on the neonate. Vitamin-C may be taken safely during pregnancy and lactation. |
| SIDE-EFFECTS |
| In rare case, mild gastrointestinal disturbances (bloating, diarrhoea) can occur. In predisposed patients prolonged treatment with high doses may promote the formation of calculi in the urinary tract. |
| PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTION |
| Store at a cool (below 30º C) and dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Alter each use keep the tube tightly closed. |

Tube containing 10 tablets each. Each Ostocal•C• Effervescent Tablet: effervescent tablet contains 260 mg elemental Calcium (as Calcium lactate Gluconate INN 1000 mg and Callium carbonate USP 327 mg) and Asoorbic Acid (Vitamin-C) USP 500 mg. |
