| DESCRIPTION |
Ostocal D is the preparation of calcium carbonate 1250 mg equivalent to 500 mg elemental calcium and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 200 I.U. Calcium is a mineral that is found naturally in foods. Calcium is necessary for many normal functions of our body, especially bone formation and maintenance. Vitamin D is important for the absorption of calcium from the stomach and for the functioning of calcium in the body. Calcium and vitamin D combinations are used to prevent or to treat calcium deficiency. |
| INDICATIONS |
Calcium and vitamin D is prescribed for treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disease. Calcium supplements are often used to ensure adequate dietary intake in conditions such as pregnancy, nursing, kidney disease, and pancreatitis or during therapy with anti-seizure medications. It is also used as routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure. |
| DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION |
Two tablets daily or one tablet twice daily. It is best taken with or just after a meal to improve absorption. Each dose should be taken with a full glass of water. |
| CONTRAINDICATIONS |
It is contraindicated in case of hypercalcaemia, hyperthyroidism, renal calculi & nephrolithiasis, Zoliinger-Elison syndrome, concomitant digoxin therapy. |
| USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION |
Ostocal D should be used as directed by physician during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. |
| PRECAUTIONS |
If there is any pre-existing heart disease or kidney disease, precautions should be taken. |
| SIDE EFFECTS |
The combination is well tolerated. Constipation may occur. If there is experience like nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dry mouth, increased thirst, increased urination while taking, physicians should be notified. |
| DRUG INTERACTIONS |
It has possible interaction with digoxin, antacids containing calcium, aluminum or magnesium, other calcium supplements, calcitriol or other vitamin D supplements; tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline or oxytetracycline etc. So before taking any of these drugs with Ostocal D?, suggestions of the physicians are needed. |
| OVERDOSE |
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea and vomiting, severe drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, stomach cramps, unconsciousness, diarrhoea, weakness, headache, constipation, dizziness or irritability. |
| PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTIONS |
Should be stored in cool place (below 30°C) and dry place. Keep out of reach of children. |

Ostocal-D tablet: Bottle containing 15/30 tablets each. Each tablet contains calcium carbonate BP 1250 mg equivalent to 500 mg elemental calcium and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) BP 200 I.U.
